There really is no time like the present to cruise down Florida’s A1A and there’s no feeling quite like riding the scenic byway.
The full A1A spans approximately 339 miles from the southernmost point in Key West to the northernmost point in Fernandina Beach. The mostly two-lane roadway navigates nature’s beauty, history and serenity. And, hugging the Atlantic Coast, you’ll feel like you’re floating (or riding!) on water, as the scent of beachy salt water hits your nose.
Laid-back charm
Lea Rieck, also known as ‘Got2Go’ is a journalist, author and adventurer. Originally born in Munich, Lea left her everyday routine in 2017 and circumnavigated the world in 18 months with her motorcycle (you can follow her journey on YouTube). She has explored the east coast of Florida on her Yamaha Ténéré 700, including the AIA Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway.
Lea said, “The A1A is famous worldwide as a center of beach culture. It’s a scenic coastal route with an extravagant character and laid-back charm. I was super stoked after riding the east coast of Florida. I initially assumed that it might be like trails on the West Coast such as Ozello Trail and Casey Key, which I’d already visited. But I think the east coast is very different, and part of that is due to this fantastic road, the A1A.
Riding along the A1A allows you to experience the natural beauty of the coastline, with its pristine white sandy beaches, crashing waves, and scenic dunes. Due to its well-maintained roads, smooth pavement, gentle curves, and scenic stretches, the A1A is a popular route with motorcyclists. They uniformly report that it’s perfect for enjoying the freedom and thrill of motorcycle riding. Additionally, there are designated motorcycle-friendly stops and businesses along the way that cater to all riders’ needs.

- Fascinating St. Augustine – Founded in 1565, St. Augustine is the nation’s oldest city, known for its Spanish colonial architecture and rich history.
- Daytona International Speedway – This race track is home to the Daytona 500, a famous 500-mile-long NASCAR Cup Series motor race.
- Miami – One of the world’s most popular vacation spots, Miami is known for its strong Cuban Influence, warm weather, pristine beaches, and great diving sites.
- Vibrant beach towns – The A1A Scenic Byway takes you through vibrant beach towns, such as Vero Beach and Daytona Beach. From laid-back surf towns to upscale coastal communities, these towns offer a range of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, and each has its own charm and character.
